Puerto Iguazú Airport is under renovation and Foz do Iguaçu Airport receives flights from there!

Cataratas del Iguazú International Airport is currently under renovation, so Foz do Iguaçu International Airport is receiving flights that should be redirected to the Puerto Iguazú terminal.

The Foz do Iguaçu terminal receives approximately 6 thousand passengers per day in the months of April and May, but with the temporary transition of flights from Puerto Iguazú, it now has an average daily movement of 8,5 thousand people. This number, however, is lower than that recorded in the high season (December to February), when 11 thousand passengers travel through the airport per day.

Foz do Iguaçu airport currently receives only one international flight daily, to Lima (in Peru), however, since the 15th, they have started to have, on average, 100 more international flights per day, between arrivals and departures.

The forecast is that Puerto Iguazú Airport will complete its works on May 15th, however, according to the terminal superintendent, Joacir Araújo dos Santos, the authorities, entities and companies involved are prepared to act for up to 90 days.

This planning includes Infraero, Federal Police, Federal Revenue, Anvisa, Federal Highway Police, Secretary of Civil Aviation, National Civil Aviation Agency, Aeronautics Command, Ministries of Transport, Agriculture, Secretariat of Tourism and Secretariat of Traffic of Foz do Iguaçu , among other bodies involved. We also have a task force made available by the Operation Management Superintendence, working in the emigration service to ensure that international flights boarding and disembarking quickly. As a result, the average passenger service time is much shorter than recommended standards,” the manager said.

According to Marçal Rodrigues Goulart, superintendent of Operation Management at Infraero, this operation is to show that Foz do Iguaçu has the appropriate infrastructure and sufficient operational conditions to serve international flights. “We are all working, committed to serving flights to show companies that our airport has the tariff, infrastructure and operational conditions to migrate these flights to Foz do Iguaçu permanently. Furthermore, the airport is in the process of Operational Certification with the Regulator and we will soon have this additional element of accreditation of the airport infrastructure”, says Goulart.
