A little about Carnival in Brazil

Brief history of the origins of carnival in Brazil

Carnival arrived in Brazil in the colonial period as celebrations and its first carnival manifestation was the Shrovetide, a festival of Portuguese origin.

But it was actually more of a joke, known as “wet game”, since where people prepared containers with liquids (sometimes dirty or with urine) in each other.

As it could happen either on private or public properties, the game soon lost its appeal for many in Brazilian society.

Thus, a movement to end it began in Brazil, disappearing completely at the beginning of the century. XX.

To replace Shrovetide, soon the elite of the time began to organize carnival dances in theaters and clubs, he also organized car parades for a few years.

Meanwhile, the most popular classes were responsible for organizing the first street parades, which at the time looked more like religious processions.

These parades began with the rancho, capoeiras to the sound of bass drums. A few years later they evolved into marchinhas and the samba, which became one of the main musical styles of carnival.

Carnival in Brazil today

Even though it's not a holiday, it's Facultative point (optional) in much of Brazil, the festival is so traditional and important for some cities that Brazil practically stops in its tracks.

This is because it is one of the parties that most stimulate the economy of the main carnival centers in Brazil and, even more so, it attracts the attention of the world.

Without a doubt, the highlight of the most organized parties in Brazil are Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo with their super elaborate and creative parades.

Just like Recife, Olinda, Salvador and Belo Horizonte take to the streets with electric trios, parades and the most lively street blocks!

On the other hand, not all Brazilians are into samba or even enjoy celebrating Carnival, this is the case for many who take advantage of these dates to escape the festivities and rest!
