Foz do Iguaçu is part of the ranking of the 100 smartest cities in the country!

The municipality of Foz do Iguaçu is among the 100 smartest cities in the country, according to the Connected Smart Cities 2016 ranking, prepared by the consultancy Urban Systems. The survey evaluated the public management of Brazilian cities, considering 73 indicators grouped into 11 axes, based on social, economic and technological vectors that promote innovation and quality of life among the population.

In the study, Foz do Iguaçu occupies the 42nd position nationally and the 3rd place in the ranking of Paraná. The city ranks 24th in the mobility and accessibility indicator, the best result in the municipality. The list includes ten other cities in Paraná. The survey analyzed the areas of urban mobility, urbanism, environment, energy, technology and innovation, education, health, security, entrepreneurship, economy and governance.

The mapping aims to identify cities with the greatest development potential through indicators of intelligence, connection and sustainability. For the list of smartest cities, Urban Systems assigned proportional scores to each topic. The order of classification does not necessarily represent the amount of investment in public policies.

Urban Systems is a market intelligence and development solutions company, in the business for 17 years. Connected Smart Cities 2016 was prepared in partnership with the company Sator. The matrix of indicators covers municipal expenses in each area, vacancies in hospital beds per inhabitants, enrollment in the public education network, Enem score, new companies, GDP per capita and average income of workers, among others.

To create Connected Smart Cities, Urban Systems combined the concepts of smart cities and connectivity. “The Concept of Connectivity is the relationship between the different sectors analyzed. The concept of smart cities considered understands that development is only achieved when the city's development agents understand the power of connectivity between all sectors”, points out the study.

Based on this concept, investments, actions and public policies are analyzed in an intersectoral manner. “An example of this is the awareness that investments in sanitation are linked not only to environmental gains, but also to health gains, which will, in the long term, reduce investments in the area (basic health care) and consequently impact on governance issues and even same economy”, explains the Urban Systems report.
