About the Jazz Cigano Quintet group:

The Curitiba group Jazz Cigano Quinteto, which is one of the main references of jazz manouche in Brazil. In 2016, the quintet formed by Lucas Miranda (guitar), Mateus Azevedo (drums), Vinícius Araújo (guitar), Wagner Bennert (double bass) and John Theo (violin), released their CD called “Jazz Cigano Quinteto II”.

This style of music was created by the cyano-Belgian violinist Django Reinhardt, and immortalized in his Quintet of the Hot Club de France, which also included the important French violinist, Stephane Grapelli, in the 30s, in Paris.

The mixture of Django's gypsy musical “accent” with the hot rhythms of jazz swing generated a result that is still admired around the world to this day. In Europe, generations of musicians are dedicated to keeping the Django tradition alive and, in Brazil, even more gypsy jazz groups emerge, as this musical aspect is also called.
