The legend of Iguaçu Falls:

The following story is told in legend:

The Indians who lived on the banks of the Iguaçu River, the Caigangues They had a devout belief in a god who took the form of a giant serpent who ruled the world and the waters, called M'Boy the god was the son of the powerful god Tupã!

The Caigangues respected M'Boy a lot, and every time some punishment occurred to the tribe, such as the absence of fish or polluted water, they attributed these problems to M'Boy's anger.

To stop the punishments, the caigangues wanting to avoid hunger and anguish made a deal with the serpent god, in the agreement every year a beautiful Indian woman from the tribe was offered to him, as an offering to M'Boy, so that they would be blessed back with fresh water to drink and fish to eat, M'Boy liked the deal and agreed to seal the deal.

The chosen Indian women were proud of their task, as for them it meant an honorable sacrifice for the survival of the entire tribe.

Until one day, the tribe's chief, Igoni had to promise his own daughter Damn it, to the God of the waters, because Naipi was so beautiful that even the waters of the rivers stopped when she dazzled her reflection in the water. As she was consecrated to the serpent god, Naipi lived in his cult to fulfill her destiny.

However, a young warrior among the Caigangues, called taroba was enchanted by the Indian Naipi, while admiring the young woman in one of her typical indigenous dances, Naipi's beauty and grace made the warrior Tarobá fall in love, thus beginning a forbidden romance.

On the day of Naipi's consecration to M'Boy, several preparations were made, filling the village with decorations and drinks such as “cauim” (a typical drink made from fermented corn) where an important and commemorative date would clearly begin.

However, consumed by the fire of passion, Tarobá and Naipi were loving each other, abandoning old beliefs, knowing that they were in danger by disrespecting and breaking the agreement with the enormous serpent god, M'Boy!

To escape this fate, Tarobá and Naipi took advantage of the distraction of the shaman and the chief, who were drunk with caim, in addition to the other Indians who were drinking and dancing in celebration. Seeing this situation, the two lovers took this chance to escape, and so they went down the river in a canoe downstream.

To his chagrin, M'Boy noticed the escape and was enraged by the betrayal, following them down the river, the serpent swam and noticed where the two wanted to go, which was towards the Parana River, where it was forbidden territory for the god of waters.

Then, realizing that Tarobá and Naipi were approaching the Paraná River, the enormous serpent took momentum and penetrated the interior of the river, going deeper into the earth, twisting its body with extreme fury, in order to finish off the two lovers, its violent act generated a deep crevice where the waters fell and created the great waterfalls!

Trapped in the water, the canoe of the two lovers fell from a high height, disappearing forever, where they have never been seen again to this day.

But according to the legend of Foz do Iguaçu Falls, the great god Tupã would have punished them for all their audacity and fights, transforming them into other beings.

Where in the legend Naipi became a rock, being one of the central rocks present in the Falls, stuck in its shape forever being ricocheted by the nervous waters of the river.

Tarobá was transformed into a palm tree, standing right on the edge of a huge abyss, to be curved over the river gorge, where M'Boy was imprisoned at the entrance of a cave, in the depths of the Devil's Throat, where the monster could stay watching over his two victims for eternity.
