According to what had been disclosed and published in the DOU (Official Gazette of the Union) ordinance as of last Wednesday, that quota of purchases worth US$ 300,00 tax-exempt, was replaced by the new value of US $ 500,00.
The new measure established by the Federal Government allows this value to be valid for Brazilians who want to make purchases in Paraguay, whether by land, through the rivers or lakes on the border of the two countries.
According to the DOU ordinance, which was published in October last year (2019), an increase for airport duty-free shops between the two countries also rose, from US$500,00, for purchases in airport duty-free shops, to up to US$ $1k per person.

According to statistical data from the Federal Revenue, every day, around 100 thousand people and 40 thousand vehicles cross the Friendship Bridge, which connects the Brazilian city Foz do Iguaçu, with the Paraguayan city Ciudad Del Este. (Source: G1.globo.com website)

What are the rules for the new Paraguay quota?
Following what the Federal Revenue reported, these are the conditions for using the quota:
- US$500,00 is the maximum quota value, per person, without tax
- Purchases above the quota must be registered at Customs at Ponte da Amizade, located in Brazil, in the city of Foz do Iguaçu.
- The quota can be valid for 30 days, that is, if you make a purchase in less than a month, above the quota value, you will no longer be able to be exempt from the tax on the new purchase.
- In terms of quantities, only 30 items are allowed
- A maximum of 3 of them can be identical.
