What is the difference and importance of a passport and visa?
Before presenting the countries that you can visit that don't require a passport, let's explain what it is and the importance of a passport and visa.
What is a passport?
It is a document used to identify the traveler in another country.
This is where every time you enter and leave a country will be documented, in addition to visas and authorizations.
If you don't have a valid passport, but like to travel, know that the Brazilian passport in 2021 was considered the 20th most powerful in the world.
This is because it allows visa-free entry for 170 countries.
But pay attention! Tourist trips only.
What is a visa?
The visa is the permission that another country gives to enter its territory for a specified time.
Each nation establishes its criteria, which may be different depending on the type of trip (tourism, business or work, study, etc.).
But be aware that even though there is no requirement for a passport or visa to enter some countries, you need to be aware of some requirements:
- Make sure transit countries do not make this requirement.
- Even with just an ID or visa granted upon entry, the stay in the country is only for 90 days. If this period passes, the person is subject to fines or deportation.
- Pay attention to the health requirements established with the Covid-19 pandemic.
Just consult the embassies or consulates of each country to have this information.
If you don't need a passport, what documents do you need to travel?
Even though a passport is important, it is not necessary for all types of trips, especially tourist trips.
MERCOSUR countries, for example, allow Brazilians to enter their territory using only their identity document – ID.
But it is worth mentioning that this document must be up to date, that is, your expedition must be less than 10 years old and in good condition.
It is also worth pointing out that only ID is accepted, so no need to use your work card, birth registration or driver's license, huh!
Now that you've learned about the issue of documents, see the list we prepared of countries that do not require a passport in the next topics.
