Iguazú National Park gains another 900 meters of trails in the Falls

The Iguazú National Park opened another 900 meters of trails to visitors to access the Falls. The new walkways on the upper circuit lead to Salto San Martin, one of the best known of the 275 waterfalls, after the famous Devil's Throat, the largest and highest of the entire attraction divided between Brazil and Argentina .

On the Argentine side of the conservation unit, which is on the border with Foz do Iguaçu, in western Paraná, there are more than 4 km of trails that pass through the forest and over the Iguaçu River. Like most, the bases of the new access are made of concrete and the structure is made of galvanized iron, which does not rust in humidity. The work lasted a year and cost the equivalent of seven and a half million reais. The forecast is to increase access even further in 2016.

The head of the park, ranger Omar Cañete, anticipates that at the end of the walkway a viewpoint will be built over the San Martin jump, allowing visitors to better enjoy the scenery. The trail is one-way, which increases circulation and makes it possible to enjoy the tour better.

Since the beginning of the year, more than 961 thousand tourists and residents of the region have passed through the reserve. And, according to management, it takes each person six to eight hours to complete the entire tour. With the new walkway, the tourist guides' suggestion is to reserve two days to visit the attraction. Therefore, the ticket for the second day costs half price. The entire entrance fee for Brazilians costs P$200, the equivalent of R$56, and can only be paid in Argentine currency.
