Suspension of passports makes tourists travel to Brazilian cities

Many Brazilians are dazzled by the magic and charm of other countries. Traveling is synonymous with knowledge, even more so in a country other than Brazil. An international trip can become an unforgettable adventure.

Although an international trip can become unique and exclusive, it is not so easy to leave Brazil and travel abroad. Some countries require a passport, which is the main document for anyone traveling outside the country.

How does the Passport work?

The passport is issued by the Federal Police and Brazilian embassies abroad. For those over 18, the passport is valid for ten years. If you are a minor, your passport is valid according to a table ranging from one to five years. The younger the child, the shorter the validity period of the document.

Anyone traveling abroad should keep in mind that the process can take a few days, perhaps months. The Brazilian citizen must have voted in the last election, or have justified their vote or paid the fine.

If you are a man, you must not have any debt for compulsory military service. And he should not be sought out or prevented from obtaining a passport by the courts.

Before you start filling out the initial Federal Police form, make sure you have the documents that will be requested in the next steps, they are:

  • Identity Document – RG; Driver's license with proof of place of birth; children under 12 years of age, their birth certificate; If the person changed their name due to marriage, they will have to bring the marriage certificate; if the person has changed their name for gender reasons, they must bring the old and new documents;
  • Voter ID and voting receipts; If you have lost any receipts, bring an electoral clearance certificate, which can be obtained on the TSE website.
  • CPF.
  • Document proving discharge from military service, this document is only valid for men.

Once you have all the documents in hand, you need to fill out the form, which is available on the Federal Police website. The application asks for information such as: name, date of birth and number of required documents.

This data is collected through the website and sent to the National Passport System (Sinpa). Still on the form tab, you will choose the location of the understanding, where there is a list of cities.

Getting your passport takes time, patience and money! After filling out, you will click on the “Confirm” button. Then “Print Protocol/GRU”. The GRU is the Federal Collection Guide and costs R$257,25, the amount must be paid respecting the due date.

Proof of GRU payment and the protocol must be presented at the PF face-to-face stage, together with the aforementioned documentation. After the money arrives in the PF account, you will be able to schedule your in-person service.

In-person service takes place at one of the PF units, where you will choose the day and time. Some locations are signposted, which means that the queue is on a first-come, first-served basis. The queues, in order of arrival, are usually quite long.

On the day of your appointment, you must arrive 15 minutes in advance and with all documents and proof of payment in hand. At the location, you will take a photo on site and have your fingerprints collected.

When everything is ready, the passport will only be delivered in person, to the holder's chosen PF office. In the case of minors, children must be present with their legal guardian.
