New rules for Cataratas Day 2020

This year, for Cataratas Day 2020 participants, they will have to follow some new rules to participate in the event.

Due to new health safety standards, amid coronavirus pandemic in Foz do Iguaçu and the upcoming election season, some essential guidelines have been given, check it out!

  • The tours will take place in the morning and afternoon;
  • Only 300 people per hour are allowed to take photos at the event;
  • All residents of Foz do Iguaçu and neighboring municipalities have free entry to the attraction, on 11/11/20, Wednesday.
  • Internal transport, within the Iguacu National Park, will be free on November 11, 2020.
  • This year, there will be no free transportation to take participants (iguaçuenses) until the event, anyone who wishes to go to the PNI must go independently.
  • The use of buttons, caps, t-shirts or stickers of candidates for this year's elections is suspended and political demonstrations are requested to be avoided.

Rules for your safety

It is vital that people do not forget to follow the most basic rules for tourism in Foz do Iguaçu, read more below!

  1. O wearing a mask is mandatorySo, don't forget to take yours and, of course, keep it on your face, covering your nose and mouth;
  2. Sanitization of hands – There will be points for you to sanitize your hands at the PNI, but if you want to bring your own alcohol gel, feel free.
  3. Maintain social distance – It is the norm for all establishments to implement distancing between people, therefore, respect the National Park's guidelines on this and follow the limitations on queues.
  4. Follow all instructions from PNI guides and monitors, where they will be present to guide tourists and local visitors during the tour.

Pedal Cataratas Day 2020

Yes, the Cataratas Day Pedal is already taking place, today, 11/11 (Wednesday).

Participants must be over 18 years old and present proof of residence and photo ID (Example: ID), if they wish to participate, in addition to having previously registered for the website icmbio.gov.br.

Pedal Cataratas Day 2020 started at 6:30 am, with departures at 7 am, after participants gathered. In the afternoon, at 16:30 pm there will be a new meeting for the continuation of the tour at 17 pm.

This year, due to health safety regulations, tours must be limited to 150 people per period.

What is celebrated on Cataratas Day 2020?

Every year, #cataratasday aims to become a genuine celebration of the naming of Iguaçu Falls, in one of the Seven Wonders of Nature, thus becoming the famous “day of the falls”.

This celebration is carried out by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), the Secretariat of Tourism, Industry, Commerce and Strategic Projects and the concessionaire Cataratas do Iguaçu S/A. This participation also includes the Integrated Tourism Management of Foz do Iguaçu.

What is the objective of Cataratas Day?

Since the moment of its creation, this event has had the objective of strengthening tourism in Foz do Iguaçu and the region, publicizing the waterfalls of Iguaçu, motivating the use of the hashtag #cataratasday, so that more people know the attraction and are interested in visiting the magnificent Land of Falls one day.

Thus, its hashtag in English aims to reach the entire world and bring visibility to the state of Paraná and its tourist activities, with more attractiveness and recognition.

One of the reasons it takes place every year is that Cataratas Day is an unmissable celebration.

In order to celebrate the attraction's anniversary as a wonder of nature and also to recognize the tour that was reopened in a few months, after a period closed due to the pandemic.  

“Cataratas Day is always an unforgettable moment. Even with the restrictions of the pandemic and the election period, we decided to hold the event, as this date cannot go unnoticed. We count on everyone's support to share photos and videos of Iguaçu Falls on social media and generate positive media for the destination.

Anyone who can go in person, we ask that you respect the health protocols to combat COVID-19, wearing a mask, constantly washing your hands and maintaining social distancing.” said Gilmar Piolla, Secretary of Tourism, Industry, Commerce and Strategic Projects.
