5 things to do in Paraguay besides shopping!

We know that our readers really like posts about shopping in Paraguay, today, in addition to talking about our neighboring country, we will talk about what to do in it besides the well-known shopping!

So, to demystify the prejudice that many of us have towards Paraguay, especially when we talk about Ciudad del Este, as we know it to be a “mess”, but with this list you can see that there is a way to escape that!

1- Attractions of the Paraguayan Capital

To escape the hustle and bustle of the shopping center, Asunción, the capital of Paraguay, is a great choice, as in addition to having a more touristy feel, the capital can be calmer than the shopping city.

• Calle Palma:

It is the main street in the center of Asunción, there you will find all the city's shops, you can walk from end to end and pass by some tourist attractions. On Calle Palma is the tourist house where you can buy local handicrafts and postcards.

• Pantheon of Heroes:

This monument was erected in honor of war heroes, few Brazilians know the history of Paraguay, but the country was once a regional power, being destroyed in the war of the triple alliance (also known as the Paraguayan War), when Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay practically erased the country from the map between 1864 and 1870.

• Cabildo Museum:

Built in 1578, the Cabildo was the administrative and judicial body of the city of Asunción, the city's jail was located there and criminals were beaten in front of the building.

Nowadays, the Museu del Cabildo holds much of the country's history, war relics, and many works of art. It is worth visiting and taking advantage of the visit to also visit the Metropolitan Cathedral of Asunción, seat of the bishopric since 1547.

2- Loma San Jerónimo

Loma San Jerónimo is one of the newest attractions in the city of Asunción, a tourist spot worth visiting. Now, the local inhabitants offer tourists all kinds of services, there are places to taste typical food, cafes, handicrafts and of course, a beautiful viewpoint where you can observe the Paraguay River and the city center.

3- Costanera

Now it's time to talk about one of the city's newest attractions, we're talking about an avenue that so far doesn't have a name, but is known as Costanera, because it's on the coast of the Paraguay River.

This avenue was completely built with the integration of the city's inhabitants in mind, there is space for cars, a wide sidewalk for walking and plenty of greenery.

It is through this avenue that you have access to Assunção beach, a small strip of sand on the banks of the river that allows you to practice sports, have a picnic, walk and even water sports.
