1- Who founded Parque das Aves?

In 1976, veterinarian Anna-Sophie Helene and Dennis Croukamp met in Africa, working together the couple fell in love and began their story together! In 1980 they gained a feathered friend, a Gray parrot, Pumuckl, who quickly became part of the family of birds that already existed in the couple's backyard.

These two bird fanatics had two daughters, named Anna-Luise and Carmel!

2- What does the symbol of Parque das Aves mean?

The symbol bird of the Parque das Aves logo is the Pararu-mirror or Claravis geoffroyi, a species of small gray dove, which unfortunately, with little attention, became extinct in the wild! In honor of the bird, the Park represents it in its logo to remember the importance of preserving endangered species!

3- How important is the existence of Parque das Aves?

With 91,5% of the Atlantic Forest deforested and more than 120 species and subspecies in total threat, Parque das Aves seeks to preserve and even return to nature as many of these birds in crisis of extinction, to prevent the terrible event with the Claravis was repeated, spreading to other families and classes of birds in our Atlantic Forest!

5- Parque das Aves is the 2nd most visited attraction in Foz do Iguaçu!

Coming in second only to the illustrious Cataract In Iguaçu, the Bird Park receives an average of approximately 830 visitors per year! This brings together residents of the region, Brazilians from all over the country, and many foreigners!

6- Parque das Aves preserves 16 hectares of Atlantic Forest!

9- Helping species in extreme danger!

At Parque das Aves there is the conservation of jacutingas, a bird that suffered a lot from hunting and ended up significantly reducing its species in the wild. To help them, the Park creates and returns some jacutingas to nature! Where this project seeks to reintegrate the species into nature!

Another species that only exists in conservation areas is the Alagoas curassow. In the Park, the last existing birds of this category survive, and the species still struggles to reproduce today!

11- Parque das Aves was “bought” in 1993!

In 1993 it was when the 16 hectares next to the Iguaçu National Park were purchased by the couple, who used the book “Português em tres noite” as a base, in November 1993 they finally started the works!

12- A high bet for founders!

In addition to having to take care of their daughters and the park's construction, the couple Anna and Dennis spent all their savings on building Parque das Aves, but thanks to the help of several people who joined them, the couple managed to get the project off the ground. your dream and gradually turn it into reality.

And the most incredible thing: without having to cut down a single native tree!

13- How did the first birds come?

Through donations, loans from other zoos and animals seized by Ibama.

In 1994, most of these species in the Park were from other continents!

14- When was Parque das Aves officially opened?

On October 7, 1994, Parque das Aves was officially inaugurated, thus completing 25 years of history and achievements today!

15- It was Dr.Carmel Croukamp who decided to focus on species conservation!

The Croukamp couple's daughter, Dr. Carmel, after noticing the disappearance of the gray parrot dove, Claravis, decided in 2010 to focus on the Park's vision for the preservation of native birds of the Atlantic Forest!

16- Parque das Aves welcomes more than 35 thousand students per year!

17- The Park has approximately 250 employees!
