According to research requested by the Ministry of Tourism from the Fundação Instituto de Pesquisas Econômicas (Fipe), where a study of International Tourist Demand in Brazil was carried out, the city of Foz do Iguaçu is among the main cities that received 98% approval in receptivity, attention and hospitality in the state of Paraná.
Separating the questions that made tourists choose Paraná, we can mention the following criteria:
- Leisure – It was searched with a percentage of 58,7% in Paraná!
- Nature, ecotourism and adventure – had a demand percentage of 75,8%
- Regional gastronomy – Paraná was also highly praised for its cuisine, with a 96% approval rating!
In addition to Foz do Iguaçu contributing to this number, the capital Curitiba was another city highlighted to enrich the criteria for visiting tourists to the state!
The highlight of the southern region of the country:
The great prominence that the south of Brazil gained in this research was indeed important, according to Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, who is the Minister of Tourism, this data results in a vital and good approval to highlight the beauties and tourist attractions of the region, in addition to attracting more demand and development in the southern economy, more specifically he said: “The region is one of our great assets in attracting tourists from other countries, whether due to its natural beauty, excellent cuisine or, as the research revealed, hospitality. This type of assessment is very important, as we are able to plan, train tourism and boost the economy.”
In terms of visits, the countries that most received foreigners in the south were Argentina, followed by Paraguay and Uruguay. Where another important piece of data was recorded! Because 96,6% of foreigners from these countries who were interviewed claimed that they intended to return to Brazil. Furthermore, 63,8% of them had already been to our country before!

Almost 100% approval for the South of the country:
The other states in the South of Brazil also received excellent marks, Rio Grande do Sul had an approval rating of 99,5% in hospitality according to tourists who enjoyed the attention and receptivity of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. Santa Catarina gained a percentage close to the Gauchos, reaching 995 approval ratings!
What stood out in Rio Grade do Sul was the leisure aspect, identified by 59,2% of foreign tourists as a source of demand, while in the same aspect in Santa Catarina, leisure was identified by 90,1% of tourists.
Another element of choice was the beautiful beaches of these states, since the item “beach and sun” was chosen as a search for 95,1% of tourists in Rio Grande do Sul, while in Santa Catarina this number was 73,7%.
The prominent cities in these states were Torres and Porto Alegre do RS, while in SC they were Florianópolis and Bombinhas.
Important numbers:
The International Tourist Demand survey in Brazil was carried out in 2018 and involved the participation of 39 thousand tourists of different foreign nationalities. Regarding their expectations, being in Brazil met or, at least, exceeded it for 87,7% of the tourists interviewed. Another notable fact is that 95,4% of tourists interviewed stated in the survey that they intend to return to the country again. Still in 2018, Brazil had a large record of arrivals at 6.621.376, this number surpassed by 0,5% that of the previous year (2017), which was a total of 6.588.770.
An interesting fact: With the adoption of the electronic visa, the four nations of the world (United States, Japan, Canada and Australia) benefited when entering the country. In total, it increased by 15,73% in its trips. Where thanks to a change in national law, since June 17, 2019 citizens of these nations are exempt from the document requirement.
