The Three Borders Landmark celebrates its 113th birthday!

The Brazilian landmark, located in the Porto Meira neighborhood, in Foz do Iguaçu, was inaugurated by Marshal Cândido Rondon in 1903. The Argentine landmark, which is located on the banks of the Iguaçu River, was inaugurated on the same date. While the Paraguayan landmark, located on the right bank of the Paraná River, was erected years later, on January 26, 1961.

The three, painted with the colors of their respective national flags, form a triangle that indicates the territorial limit and sovereignty of the three countries.

The landmarks on the three borders have already received thousands of visitors of all nationalities, famous or anonymous, and also feature important passages in the political history of Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina.

The Brazilian obelisk turns 113 years old this Wednesday, July 20th. The landmark was inaugurated on July 20, 1903, approximately 11 years before the political emancipation of the city of Foz do Iguaçu in 1914. For years, the obelisk has been the setting for photographic recordings of tourists, residents of the region, families, graduates, couples of lovers, among many other visitors.

Thinking about this involvement between the obelisk and visitors and residents of the region, the Marco das Américas Tourist Complex launched a challenge and invites visitors and residents to send photographs to form part of the virtual gallery collection that will be permanently available on the website. The action will take place in celebration of the attraction's 113th anniversary and the different ways in which people relate to the Three Borders Landmark throughout the century.
