Visitation to the Itaipu Biological Refuge grows almost 100% in July.

The Bela Vista Biological Refuge (RBV), one of the attractions on the Brazilian side of the Itaipu Binacional tourist complex, received almost twice as many visitors in July compared to the same period last year. There were 3.683 tourists, compared to 1.859 in July 2015 – an increase of 98%.

Considering all visits to Itaipu, tourist and institutional, from the Brazilian and Paraguayan banks, the positive variation was almost 20%.

There were 115.059 visitors last month, compared to 96.177 visitors registered in July 2015. Year to date, from January to July, the number of visitors has already exceeded half a million, reaching 507.372 people – compared to 462.941 registered in the same period last year .

The positive variation was 10%. For Itaipu tourism managers, in addition to school holidays, the increase in visitation reflects the “Meu Refúgio” campaign, led by climber Waldemar Niclevicz. The action invites tourists to plant a native tree seed and participate in the “largest reforestation program in the world carried out by a hydroelectric plant”.
